The “Chabanel on Strike” poster series documents three moments when workers in the Chabanel area pushed back against their employers. Each designed by a different Montreal artist, the posters highlight the 1983 Garment Workers’ Strike (Lisa Czech), the 2008 Justice for Lamour Workers campaign (Chris Robertson), and the 2024 Canadian Union of Postal Workers’ Strike (Guy Incognito). The Chabanel on Strike posters are part of the Celebrate People’s History Poster Series, organized by the Justseeds artist cooperative. The event will feature short interventions from some of the artists, as well as organizers involved in these labour actions.
The event is being held as part of the Flux Festival on October 3rd at 2pm at Le jardin papillon, 9300 rue Meilleur – more details on the event page are available here. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided, and posters will be available for purchase on site.
