Part two of the collaboration between the Raah Lab and the Center for Advanced Research in Global Communication (CARGC) housed in the University of Pennsylvania. This workshop brought together scholars, artists, filmmakers, and community organizers from Montreal and across the world to address the two complementary facets of migrant media studies:

  1. Media about migration, whether in topic (e.g. YouTube series documenting stories about climate refugees; Bieman, 2015; Kohn, 2016; Demos, 2013.) or in use (e.g. drone cameras surveilling border crossings; Fojas, 2021; Chouliaraki & Georgiou 2022; Lynes et all 2020 ).
  2. Migrant uses of media, as in the ways that people on the move mobilize media texts and technologies to facilitate such movement or to advocate for themselves.
