An event with acclaimed Indian documentary activist filmmaker ANAND PATWARDHAN
2022-10-02 6pm
McGill University 680 Sherbrooke West | Room 1041 (corner of McGill College and Sherbrooke W, near metro McGill)
One of India's most eminent documentarians and activists, Anand Patwardhan's films have been milestones in the history of politically committed Indian cinema. Active in filmmaking since 1971, Patwardhan's films have narrated and investigated the histories of inequitable development and rise of fundamentalist politics, tracing the contradictions of Indian socio-political life. Patwardhan has also independently exhibited his films around the world, having faced varying forms of state censorship for all his projects. His most recent project Reason analyzes the rise of the far right in India and the normalization of anti-minority violence.
Anand will speak and show clips from his films in the context of the descent into fascism and towards genocide that is unfolding in India at this moment in time.
